Yoga and Somatic Turkey Retreat October 21-28, 2019

Yoga & Somatic Retreat
Turkey, 21-28 October 2019

Escape to Turkey this autumn for a week of yoga and somatic exploration. Expect a gentle practice, plenty of time to relax, and delicious healthy Turkish food in the beautiful and quiet setting of Suleyman’s Garden, a traditional organic farm on the Mediterranean sea. In October, the extreme heat of the Summer has passed and the mellower weather is ideal to unwind, enjoy the sea, and embark on exciting excursions.

Programme
Begin the day with a short meditation and breathing practice (pranayama). After a slow breakfast, we gather again from 10:45am - 12:30pm for the morning yoga and somatic session. From lunchtime you are free to roam until the second session from 5:30pm - 6:45pm. Go for a swim in the sea, lounge by the pool, take a nap or a coastal walk. The morning session tends to be more active and the afternoon practice more recuperative in general, but each session will be adapted to the energy level and needs of the group. There will be one day off when retreatants often opt to go on a Jeep excursion to explore the surrounding sites.

Aki integrates a somatic approach to the ancient practice of yoga. What is “somatic”? “Soma” in Greek means body. In a somatic approach, we learn to experience the body from within instead of observing it from outside. It is a playful and inquisitive way of learning about oneself through the body-mind, improving mobility and ease, and supporting a calmer and positive mindset.

About the venue
Suleyman’s Garden is a charming and delightful traditional organic farm, with terraced vegetable fields, orchards, beautiful and vibrant gardens and stunning sea views. A beautiful rocky swimming cove is just a short walk away through the woods. Nested in an unspoiled part of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, the retreat is located on the world-famous Lycian Way, a marked walking trail along the dramatic, mountainous coastline.

Suleyman and his family grow all their vegetables and fruits organically for the kitchen to concoct healthy and flavourful meals for guests. The food is vegetarian and prepared in traditional ways. Staying at Suleyman’s is like being a house guest in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

What participants say
“Thank you, Aki, for SUCH an inspiring retreat - the setting was breath-taking, the food was divine, and the group of people were so lovely.  With your energy, words and guidance you created a supportive environment.  I returned home feeling grounded, rested, revitalised and inspired.  An amazing experience. Thank you for everything.” Natalie, yoga teacher

“Aki’s in-depth knowledge and generous spirit make her teaching a unique experience. Little gems of insight and understanding continuously arise during her sessions, which profoundly shifts awareness and perception so there comes about a real felt knowing in the body and new confidence in moving.” A senior yoga teacher
